Top 5 Reasons People Love Our Trees
-
1Family Founded, Owned and Operated. Our Christmas tree experience began in 1984 while studying at Cook College and working part-time on a local professor’s farm. After graduation we continued to work there making handmade wreaths and selling precut Fraser fir. It was in 1991 that we planted our first trees in South Brunswick and soon expanded to a second farm in Somerset. Given these properties were only term leases, which expired, we needed to find a permanent home for our Christmas tree growing interests. We are genuinely first generation farmers. In 1998, we met a nursery grower who had preserved his farm through a deed restriction, and wanted to retire- through a creative arrangement we were able to purchase the farm in Robbinsville. We planted our first trees in the spring of 1999 and began selling our first Christmas trees in 2006.

2A Huge Variety of Trees to Choose FromWe strive for customer satisfaction, and to that end, we have over 10 different varieties of trees to choose from. Further, by planting annually and managing our inventory we have over 3,000 trees to choose from.

3We Grow Award Winning TreesIt starts with a 3 or 4 year old seedling that is planted in the spring. During the eight years it takes to mature to a 7-8’ Christmas tree, we contribute much to its growth. Throughout the year we keep the trees free of weeds, which makes a healthier and more dense tree. We constantly monitor our trees for insects and diseases that may reduce a trees vigor and quality. In the fourth year of growth we begin trimming to help the trees fill in and attain that perfect Christmas tree shape. There is great skill and experience needed to grow award winning trees. We have been fortunate enough to be able to have won the state Grand Champion Award twice in 10 years and numerous other awards for tree quality.
The New Jersey Christmas Tree Association holds a yearly Christmas Tree Contest at the Sussex County State Fair in August. McLaughlin Tree Farm’s beautiful Christmas trees have won the title of “Grand Champion” for two years, as well as many more awards.
We’ve also provided a tree for St. Patricks Cathedral in New York in 2012.
